Interesting Facts of Vangaveeti Family

1.Vangaveeti Mohan Ranga was born in a modest family of farmers. In 1970 Vangaveeti family arrived in Vijayawada for a better future, elder brother Vangaveeti Radha Krishna joined as a cab driver where as Mohan Ranga started his career with a small cycle shop at Krishna Lanka.

2.At that time, Chalasani Venkata Rathnam was the politically dominant Vijayawada’s face, belonged to the Kamma community, headed the worker unions of communists and student unions. Radha Krishna being a cab driver was considered to be actively participating in various political activities.
3.Venkata Rathnam leader of CPI supported both Devineni family of the Kamma community and the Vangaveeti family of the Kapu community. This is the same time where Vijayawada citizens were ostensibly dazzled by the extreme Caste epidemic and the transport business was in boom.

4.Over the time Vangaveeti Radha rose to power, Conflicts arose between Vangaveeti family and Venkata Ratnam to get hold on the city transport business. In 1972, Venkata Ratnam was allegedly murdered by vangaveeti supporters in a political conspiracy.
5.Vangaveeti Radha Krishna died amid these family disputes. Now, this was the time for Mohana Ranga to claim the chair. He became a leader instantly with the support from family and caste communities. Things didn’t go well with Devineni Nehru and family, gradually individual’s rivalry became communities quarrel.
Areas of Vijayawada were divided among these two political leaders. After the financial stability attained by these political families, stepped into politics legally. Mohana Ranga fought and won the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation elections as an independent representative. Ranga also became MLA for a constituency in Vijayawada, during the reign of N.T.Rama Rao.

6.On December 1988, Vangaveeti Ranga had performed a hunger strike for the welfare of poor people and allocation of lands. He was allegedly killed by gang of Devineni supporters. They approached him in the disguise of Ayyapa Swamy devotees. Approximately 30 cuts were found on Mohana Ranga’s body. This led to the aggressive outrage among the supporters of both parties and resulted in 40days curfew, first time in the history of Vijayawada. Many number of buses and police jeeps were vandalized accounting to more than 100 crore property damage.
